The concept of Green building dates back far further than our current epoch, with the first examples of solar power plants having been built in the late 1800s. It was not until the energy crisis of the 1970s that the concept began to evolve and grow. During the 1970s the first green homes were built and the realization came that we would have to come up with a way to rely less heavily on fossil fuels. In the early 1990s, federal and state legislation began to be enacted requiring certain buildings and building renovations to adhere to environmentally friendly or “green” standards, and this legislation continues to increase every year.
