Search Engine Optimization

A few simple tips for optimizing your website

Go to Google or Bing, type in a search term that relates to what your company does - does your website come up in the search results?

If it does, great. If it doesn't come up at all or appears way at the bottom of the search results, here are a few simple things you (or your web person) can do to optimize you website for the search engines, which should drive more qualified traffic to your website.

1. Update your descriptions page. This is the blurb that appears below your website link in search engine results. Make sure your description lists all products or services your company offers.

2. Use descriptive title page names. For example, if you offer real estate E&O coverage, don't use a generic term such as "real estate", instead try something more descriptive like "real estate errors & omissions insurance".

3. Your content should also reiterate your key terms. Don't just rely on title pages and headings to convey your product or service offering. Use terms in your content that describes what you're offering and in a way that someone might search for it on Google, Bing, etc. For example, "Schinnerer offers Architects & Engineers professional liability insurance". If an engineer is on the web looking for insurance, the phrase "engineers professional liability insurance" is a likely search term he would use.

Each of these optimization tips will help the search engines match your website to what people are searching for, which should drive more traffic and more qualified traffic to your website.
