Managing a Firm’s BIM Usage

Firms that have implemented BIM are reporting significant gains in productivity and investment returns. From a risk management perspective, it is important to make sure that the uses to which the BIM model can be put by the various project participants are clearly identified. To that end, protocols governing the use of BIM files, similar to the AIA document E202-2008, Building Information Modeling Protocol Exhibit, should be in place in firm agreements. If transferring BIM information to a party with whom you do not have an existing agreement, AIA document C106-2007, Digital Data Licensing Agreement, is a stand-alone agreement that can be implemented on the use of digital data.
