Small Businesses Carving Out Space in Abandoned Detroit
A group of small businesses in Detroit are taking a similar approach in finding new office space for their creative businesses and banding together to form an impromptu new business park. Using the abandoned Russell Industrial Center, artists and small businesses convinced the building’s owner to convert floor space to usable studios for 160 small businesses. While 75% of the building still remains vacant, the 25% currently in use are operating on the frontlines of Detroit's burgeoning creative economy.
