A Value Added Reseller is the most visible element of the information technology distribution chain. In addition to selling specific computer hardware and software products, VARs (Value Added Resellers) provide services such as systems integration, IT consulting, systems installation, and network architecture.
VARs may represent certain hardware and software vendors exclusively. This exclusivity may limit their ability to provide their clients with an exhaustive list of information technology solutions. VARs should be skilled at adapting to the constant changes in the tech marketplace and should be flexible enough to add more vendors to their repertoire. These additional products, however, may lead to VARs getting involved in areas that are not wholly known to them. Their inexperience could lead to mistakes that ultimately may lead to an error or omission claim, or even cost overruns bourn by their customers.
