Profile: Jaynes Corporation

It is continually "pushing the envelope", exceeding expectations and finding opportunity in every issue that leads to frequent recognition for Jaynes Corporation. Consistently listed in the top 10% of New Mexico's Private 100 companies, Jaynes Corporation has been voted "The Most Admired Company" four times during the nine year history of the recognition program. Currently ranked in the nations Top 400 Contractors by Engineering News Record, Jaynes Corporation employs 240 people and is licensed to perform work in New Mexico, Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, Texas and Nevada. Recognized for their efforts in creating and maintaining successful partnerships, Jaynes was twice commended in 1993 by the National Associated General Contractors award for "Excellence in Partnering" and as the "Contractor of the Year" by the U.S. Corp of Engineers.

Led by J. Howard Mock, the company's Chairman, CEO and current president of National AGC, Jaynes Corporation looks "outside the box" for ways to solve problems and compete at a higher level. The company embraces expertise, technology and creative thinking to explore alternative methods to obstacles and issues arising during the design and construction of a project.

Jaynes possesses a large, highly skilled work force that performs a significant portion of the labor involved in each project. Knowing the skills and expertise of their own employees, the project management teams have greater control over quality of work and timely completion schedules.

Providing communication and computer technologies to its teams, Jaynes Corporation has realized a greater control over each project. Immediate access to centralized information files concerning any facet of a construction project results in greater efficiency, eliminates redundancy and creates a better flow of communication. Projects are delivered on time with fewer problems during construction.

The company philosophy is to view every issue as an opportunity. When skyrocketing costs caused the company to reevaluate its safety program in the mid–eighties, Jaynes made changes which ultimately increased profitability. When asked for their input, company employees made suggestions that resulted in improved training and service standards in the areas of safety, jobsite production and project management. The safety program now ranks in the nation's top ten percent of peer group contractors. The Quality Leadership Team continues to produce valuable ideas through employee solicitation.

Jaynes fosters an attitude for continual improvement of customer relations, believing a true partnership is vital to a successful project. Seeking to establish a lifetime relationship with each customer, the company established a Warranty Service Team, which deals exclusively with customer needs and concerns that arise after the completion of construction. The team resolves problems, answers questions on equipment operations, and suggests maintenance procedures to prolong the life of the building and equipment.

Future opportunities for Jaynes include a significant growth in design–build projects. Knowing that this method of delivery results in greater exposure, Jaynes began looking for a comprehensive design liability program. After investigating several, Jaynes chose the CNA/Schinnerer program. According to Rick Marquardt, VP/Project Management/Estimating, "We have programs in place to significantly control the risks associated with design–build, but we needed a partner to share that exposure. We look for expertise in our partners and felt that the CNA/Schinnerer experience in professional liability, and their credibility and reliability were the ingredients we were looking for to move forward in this emerging market."

This information is provided by Victor O. Schinnerer & Company, Inc. as the program administrator for the CNA Professional Liability Insurance Policy for Design Professionals. The CNA/Schinnerer Program is the Commended Program of The American Institute of Architects and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
